EVENTS ON HEALTH AND HIV/AIDS AT TARGET AIDS
World Aids day 2007 "Facing the Facts"

About 40 Millions people are leaving with HIV/Aids around the world with about 25 Million leaving in Africa. It is obvious that Africa is the most affected continent. According to UNAIDS, Africa continues to bear the brunt of the global epidemic. Two thirds (63%) of all adults and children with HIV globally live in sub-Saharan Africa, with its epicentre in southern Africa One third (32%) of all people with HIV globally live in southern Africa and 34% of all deaths due to AIDS in 2006 occurred there. Declines in national HIV prevalence are being observed in some sub-Saharan African countries, but such trends are currently neither strong nor widespread enough to diminish the epidemics overall impact in this region.

December is recognized internationally as World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is preceded by AIDS Awareness Week, beginning annually on 24 November. The aim of World AIDS Day and AIDS Awareness Week is to raise consciousness in the community about HIV/AIDS issues, including the need for support and understanding for people living with HIV/AIDS, and the need for the development of education and prevention initiatives.

In 2007 World Aids day is calling for a global Awareness to “Facing the Facts”.

TargetAIDS regional workshop:
Proposal developed Training for NGOs

Since the past decade, many NGOs have engaged in HIV/Ads work making a meaningful contribution to the response in the continent. One of the challenges for NGCos and community based organisation is how to mobilise and secure funding to sustain their work. Developing proposals for donors has always been the main challenges and many NGOs have to rely on consultants to lead of such processes.  the reason is partly because of lack of time but the main reasons is the lack of skills and experience.

TargetAIDS has committed to address this challenge by organisation a regional workshop of senior NGO members and staff on how to develop and write a sellable proposal and make it a success.

The course will be organised in Burkina Faso from the 12th to the 17th December 2007.
the course is opened to all NGOs working in Africa interested to build skills within their team to be able to lead and develop successful proposals to the main HIV/Aids donors.

The aim of this evening is to raise funding to support 3000 children affected by Aids in 2008. the funding will be used to pay for their school fees, basic health care package, school furniture, essential clothing and school uniforms and also at least one balance meal a day. we also aim at giving a symbolic Xmas present to 1000 most needy children.
